The Blue Zone Solution by Dan Buettner is a great book with an intention to share what people who are living the longest around the globe have in common and their differences. Dan works for National Geographic and is basing his information on research done and key factors teased out and shared.

It is easy to read and will give you information that can help if you have issues with your stomach that could be helped with probiotics. There is also dairy and gluten-free recipes. Eye opening.

The Spectrum by the very famous Dean Ornish, MD includes a recipe for health that includes food, stress relievers, exercise and more. He is an advocate that being healthy is more than what you eat although that is super important. It’s easy to read and he has the stories to back him up.

Food Over Medicine is written by Pamela Popper, PhD ND and is written in a question and answer form. It is extremely informative and with the added benefit that Pam is known to stick to the facts weather they are in line with a certain paradigm or not.

The Cheese Trap written by Neal Barnard MD, FACC is fascinating. He shows why cheese is so bad for us and why even when and if we believe that, it’s so hard to quit eating. This book will make you want to break up with cheese and that’s a good thing.

The Whole Foods Diet by John Mackey, Alona Pulde, MD and Matthew Lederman, MD talks about other eating trends and also gives good information to support an eating pattern of whole foods. He includes some recipes and gives a 28 day plan to transform your health.

The China Study by Colin T Campbell PhD, was my personal aha moment when I gave up eating animals. This book includes over 30 years of scientific experimentation with some eye popping results, even for Dr. Campbell. Its so compelling that I think this information was the beginning of the food revolution into eating plants.

Undo It is also by Dean Ornish MD and his wife Ann Ornish. This book focuses on reversing disease. It’s is so refreshing for me that I can actually have an affect on my health after years of abusing it. It’s informative and easy to understand. Lots of great recipes to enjoy so that you are never feeling deprived.

How Not to Die by Micheal Gregor MD doesn’t explain exactly how not to die but how not to die from the biggest diseases that face our country. How? By diet, of course. He lists out 15 different diseases and explains the causes and what to do about them. I was so glad to find this book. He’s amazing. He also includes what he calls his daily dozen…foods to eat every day to defeat diseases.

The Idiots Guide to Fermenting Foods by Wardeh Harmon is an interesting and informative book that will explain the benefits of eating fermented foods. You will leave this book seeking those for your body. It has history and recipes included.

Whole by T. Colin Campbell was a recommended read from my Lifestyle Intervention class. This book will take you through why our food system is so messed up and how we can find the right information to help us make choices. He compares the Reductionist view with the Wholistic view. This book helped me see why I am so frustrated and how I got there.

The Starch Solution is written by John McDougall, MD. He has written many books backed by years of experience and he shows outcomes. His premise is that we are mainly starch eaters and that is what sustains us. I can tell you that I eat much more starch after reading this book which has made me less hungry and added no extra pounds. He also sticks by his saying “The fat you eat, is the fat you wear.” Less fat is better. Most of us have way too much of it.

How Not to Diet is a very recent book of Michael Mc Greggor, MD. It includes good, solid evidence on ways we can improve our diet and why these things occur. Great perspective and advice that is based on scientific evidence.

The Idiots Guide to Plant Based Nutrition was written by Julienna Hever, MS< RD< CPT and Raymond Cronise. This is a basic book that covers everything about eating plant based from the confusions we have to the answers we need. I found it helpful and it answers so many questions in one book.

Foods, inc. is edited by Karl Weber and goes further than the documentary of the same name. He talks about the industrial food industry and how it is making us sicker, fatter, and poorer. He also gives us answers. I think everybody, dispite their food beliefs should read this. It is hard to believe but yet…
