Health is a pretty important part of life. It encompasses all that we are. We have intellectual health, emotional health, spiritual health and environmental health. We have the health that is our bodies…physically. There are so many things we can do daily to either contribute or take away from. Practicing and being mindful is an important part of a healthy life.

Being mindful can really help us make good habits and break bad ones. Mindfulness is a practice of focused, nonjudgmental observation. It is the ability to be fully present in the moment. It takes practice and the more you do it, the better you are at figuring out why you do what you do. That makes for better decision making.

Although there are some things you can’t change, genetics and biology, many things are totally in our control. These are called modifiable determinants. Some of these modifiable determinants are physical activity, nutrition, alcohol and tobacco use. Scientists are starting to realize that these are huge influences in our wellbeing and health. Experts have figured out that paying attention to these things can add up to 14 extra, disease free years.!
